Play in Column, not Steering Box
I reached under the hood, back below the brake booster and fiddled with the little part that connects to the column and it seems that is where all of the free-play is in my Shlomo's steering--
What remedies this condition? I am hoping that it being in the column makes it easier/more affordable than a suspension rebuild!

I assume, although always dangerous to do that you are reffering to the steering coupler. Also have seen it mentioned that the actual bushings or bearings can wear in the tube that the steering shaft travels through somewhwere on these models. Have a look in the archives but suspect it was posted as a help link by someone tied to their website. Just cannot remember.

Alright--
Thank you, thank you! I just assumed that since it could be so easily traced to the easiest to fix components, that it made my job a little bit easier! It could be that the box itself is loose, allowing the steering wheel to so easily turn, since repairing things in the column itself would only add resistance to the free play, and not actually fix it. I have been warned against adjusting the box if fault lies elsewhere, but if the problem were suspension related, would the box not turn sooner, but that movement be 'soaked up' by the loose suspension instead of the box itself?

Sloppy steering couplers are not really rare. Grab the steering couplers lower part with a pair of vice grips to stabilize it. Have someone move the steering wheel back and forth slowly. Your should be able to see if there is any slop in the part quite easily. If there is no slop it probably is in the steering box. Thinking a new coupler is not too pricey for the part if required but have not checked and may be way off. Great you found an indication it might be getting bad.
