Replacing Seatbelts 1985 300D
Has anyone had to replace their RS seatbelts after a crash? We are getting our 300d Turbo back on the road and the warning buzzer buzzes when the key is out and the door is open. I tried one from another car with the same results. Is the warning buzzer tied into the crash sensor and does this need to be replaced after an accident? Also where is it located? Can I use belts from another car despite the warning or will I be OK if I use the belts along with the crash sensor from the other car? Thanks in advance!

Mine does the same thing but to my knowledge(and Carfax) the car's never been wrecked. I don't know what's wrong.

I replaced my 83 drivers seat belt - not after a crash but because the belt was frayed. No problems. I think the buzzer is not working or disabled.

There are no sensors on an 85 300D. The buzzer reminds you that you have your lights on. Their is a push button thing in the door jam that sets if off. You probably have a short somewhere.

Try these things and report back:
1. See if the buzzer remains on with the standing lights turned on (door open.) 2. See if the buzzer remains on with the seat belt fastened (door open.) |

Yes to both #1 & #2. The warning buzzer stays on. What is it that triggers the charged seatbelts? I have heard there is a crash sensor but I cant find one. The closest thing I could see may be under the radio.

I don't think the seat belts have anything to do with your problem. There is a switch inside the warning module which could be stuck closed. Or there is a problem in the light switch that is fooling the warning system into thinking that the lights are on. (The warning should activate with the parking or headlights only, not the standing lights or with the lights off.)
The "lights on" warning is grounded through the door switch which powers the courtesy light. It's wired separately from the seat belt warning. Does the seat belt warning light in the instrument cluster come on when the door is open? If not, it would further confirm that the seat belts are not part of the scenario. |

No, the seatbelt warning indicator does not come on when the door is open(works on start up then goes off normally). That is kind of good news. Maybe a loose wire/switch post crash? Another buzzer that works from a different car acted the same when put in this 1985.

It seems to me that the headlight switch is the most likely culprit.

Excellent! I will check the switch in the morning, although I'm not sure what to check & post a reply. Thanks for the help.

I went under the dash a fooled around with the headlight switch. Thought maybe somthing was loose it seemed OK. How does one know if the headlight switch is bad? I unplugged the buzzer for now. Will that do any harm except disable my seatbelt warning? Thanks
