Odometer Honesty
So, I'm finally going to tackle my odometer problem this weekend, and have a question regarding how to set mileage. It reads 131K, but the PO claimed it has well over 200K (which I firmly believe!)...when I "fix" it should I set it to an even 200K just to get a good place to start, or just leave it where it is? Is this an issue at all? I don't ever see selling it...I kinda think I'll drive it 'til I can no longer move it.

Leave it where it is and tell the next owner if you ever sell the car.
|
If you set it to anything, set it to zero and put a sticker on the A pillar (front door jamb) stating the old milage reading. Add your estimate too, if you like.
|
Don't touch it. No good deed goes unpunished. If the wrong person finds out you altered it, you could be charged with odometer tampering. I know you would just be setting it forward, I know that, but to some people that does not matter. Ask my father, the 70 year old church treasurer who recently got handcuffed and arrested at the church after he reported a break-in to the church office.:silly:

Just Leave Things Be
Since your odometer is working fine, I will not mess around with it. It is delicate, and could become temperamental latter if you try to change the numbers. Just live with it, and know that it has that additional miles.

Thanks all. I'll leave it be. I'll hopefully get it working, and just make a note of the current mileage...that makes the most sense.

go ahead...try it...
I'm gonna bet that when you take it apart, the numbers are gonna (at some point) fall out and onto the floor anyway. So be sure to note what the reading is right now.
