pool noodle type?
 

So I am looking to reinforce my seats, and I now have a questions on what types of noodles to use. I am seeing three types in the store: narrow smooth cylyndrical ones, larger cylyndrical ones that have a ridged profile, not smooth, and finally, I found noodle "boards" - flat pieces of styrofoam noodle material about 1" thick and 6-8" wide (can't remember, never saw them before).

From guys who have done this seat mod, which do you think would be better? Are the flat board ones worth getting, better, useless, etc? Wider noodles better than slimmer noodles, or vice versa?

I don't think the "boards" will help. Either one of the noodles will do, I mean, all you need is dense foam in that shape.

Yeah, but I was wondering if the slimmer noodles wouldn't be wide enough to do much, or the larger ones too big.

The ones I used with excellent results were non ribbed and about 3 inches wide.

The thick ones will be hard to fit in and the flat won't give as much cushion.
So small round ones w/o ridges.

I would try then out by sitting on them at the pool noodle store!!!

The pool noodle seat fix is a fantastic idea - brilliant, but if you are looking for longevity it's not pool noodles. Pool Noodles are not made from a very high quality of styrofoam. Environment is their demise:(

Fix the springs first, then the pool noodles will support the weak springs. If not, just pick up a good used passenger seat and swap the bottom guts...

Seats are maybe $25 here at the PickNSteal. If you're just getting one for its guts. I have paid $150 for an entire CLEAN interior FWIW.

I used the small diameter, smooth, round noodles about 6 months ago. I have not noticed any change in the support. Even if they do start to deteriorate, 3 bucks and you fix it again.

The small ones work best if you ask me. Although if you spend much time driving get new springs. I thought the noodles felt great until I had a NOS spring assembly swapped in with new a new pad. Night and day difference. The horsehair pad made a huge difference as well.

I also found a little secret. There is a spot for a torsion spring at the front middle of the seat. Neither of my seats had it installed but the spot is there in the metal and leather for one. It gives a ton of support to the front edge of the seat.

A "torsion spring"? You mean another coil spring?
