1981 240D fuse problem

help, yesterday, A/C and everything worked. Today, no instruments, nor A/C work. Fuse blew, replaced and blew again.

I have no experience in a lot of electrical testing, but if this is a known problem for the 1981 240d’s , I hope someone would shed some easy fixes for me.

Bob

sounds like a short. or could possibly be a locked up blower motor.

why????

yesterday all I had on hand were american type fuses. Put a new 5A in, and it blew.

today, on the way home purchased some german 5A and 8A and some 'red' ones. put the german 5A in, and now everything works.

why?

More than likely its your blower motor for the AC/Heat system going bad. They tend to blow fuses as the get bad. If it blows again, disconnect your blower motor and try another fuse. If it still blows. Let us know. If it does not blow drive it for a while and test it. If it is OK then reconnect it and see what happens. If it blows after connecting the fan then you should replace the brushes and check the bearings.
