How do you dry out oil soaked hood pad?

My idiot act has left my hood pad soaked w/ motor oil...it is starting to drop on the front edges.
Is there a way to save the pad or am I looking at replacement?

It really depends on the type of pad you have installed .If original it will probably need to be replaced and if fairly new you may be able to clean it at the carwash using the soap and the low pressure setting at the handle .

Even if you were able to remove most of the oil (polluting an enormous amount of water along the way), the remaining oil will gradually attack the glue attaching the pad to the hood. Better to bite the bullet and replace the pad.

Forget it.

You are looking at a replacement.

at least then the hood will fade evenly!

how many inches are you missing from the front? it probably wont hut if its less than a foot. ive seen cars that have run 50k miles with NO hood pad and the hood isnt faded. direct sunlight is what fades the paint, at least in the south.

how did you manage to get oil on it to begin with? i cant imagine.

about 12 inches across the front.
Got oil in it trying to stop the itty bitty bit that comes out of the valve cover.

about $50 will get you a decent new pad and a can of 3M 8090 to put it on with.
