I may be wrong but I thought they all had block heaters installed. Just the chord wasn't installed unless requested.

300SDL blockheater
I have the same question with my 300 SDL. Where is this blockheater installed?

You can usually find a universal, lower coolant-style heater for around $30 at your local parts chain.

On the passenger side of the block towards the transmission there is a black plastic cap about 40mm in diameter. Spin off the cap and there should be connectors for the block heater. I don't know what kind of plug it takes.
If my AZ SDL had a block heater I imagine all SDLs came with block heaters. Sixto |

Block heater - Canadian comment
My 83 300sd came with a factory installed heater, located on the RH side of the engine (RH side as you face forwards). The cord is hidden in a flap under the bumper.
If yours is busted or removed you can get replacement kits with instructions for either a block (better, more difficult to install) or hose mounted (inferior, easy to install) block heaters at www.**************.com If you go for the local parts store option make sure it is properly sized for the metric hole into which you will put the doubtless inches measured unit.... My 83 300sd starts fine down to about -12 Centigrade before a block heater is necessary. |

I'm looking into installing a block heater right now. im in charlottesville, VA so it does not get too cold but I would like to install one to have easy starts in the morning. I don't see myself putting a block heater on it after reading about all that is involved but the hose heater seems like a good alternative to me. Does the coolant circulate at all with one of these things though or does it just heat the stuff in the hose up?

Does anyone have a picture of the location for the block heater?
