92 300d 2.5 Turbo Headgasket

Car Has 145,000 And Well Kept. I Saw Coolant Drip From Rear Of Engine On Passenger Side Towards Center Of Motor. It Drips Down On Transmission. I Cannot Find Any Hoses Or Other Places Back There Where I See The Coolant. Could This Be A Headgasket Leaking?

There Are No Other Symptoms Such As Coolant In Oil Or Oil In Coolant Nor Having To Top Up Coolant. Any Suggestion On What This Might Be Or A Fix For This? What Would A Headgasket Job Cost For This Engine? Is This Common For This Engine?

I would bet on a heater hose spraying a bit back there

before thinking it was a head gasket.
head gaskets don't usually leak externally.
Autozone will rent a coolant pressurizer for free after returning, pump up your radiator and look for the squirting.

R u parked on a slope ? I ask this because there is a drain tube on the expansion tank that lets coolant drain if the slope is beyond certain gradient.

The other thing to note is there is a drain tube on the water pump. It is normal to sometimes see some coolant in that area.

Trust me, if ur head gasket was leaking u would have lots worse problems.

I have the same car.

there could be a couple of things to consider before suspecting the head gasket whick is less likely to be leaking on a diesel engine like Mercedes except if you had an overheating problem.

check and inspect:
1) heater hoses (clamps , fittings, AC monovalve etc.)
2) water pump weep hole
3) expansion tank vent hose and other related hoses
4) block heater plug (if equipped)
