Talking Is this car as nice as I think it is?

I saw this car on ebay, and I was interested to know if its as nice a car as I think it is, or if my judgement isn't quite as good as I hope. I also figured that if it is that nice, some of you might be interested in knowing about it. Well, here you go! <>

The car is represented well. Would be very cool to own, watch the $$'s fly in the last 24 hours.

I wonder if a turbo OM617 would have fit in there

The oil filter of the turbo 617 inteferes with something in a W115 engine bay. I don't know if it's simply a matter of fitting a 615 or older 616 filter block.

There is a brace that runs from the top center of the firewall down diagonally on both sides that the oil filter housing hits on. There is a way around this but I don't recall.

the 115 engine bay is much different. and the accessories between those engines and the 123 engines is completely different. i think the turbo would be a problem in several ways.

the 115 engine bay is very very narrow.

Yes, the inner fenders come in quite far. Honestly I wanted to put an injected DOHC 2.8 from a W123 into my 250 with a manual tranny. But thankfully I sold it before I "wasted" any more money.

now the 110 engine was offered in the 115 body, so that would work, probably.

Tom, was also the 130 block offered in the 114 type coupes and some sedans? Thinking around 1972. A little more power perhaps? Just know the engines in my two gas coupes are not 110s. But original equipment. Suspect they might fit as well as they are single cam sixes.

Welcome to the forum, these guys can go off on tangents occasionally . Very clean car, but I doubt it will sell for anywhere near the current price. If you watch eBay, all the serious bidders will wait until the last minute to jump in.

Are these cracks, etc, a potential problem?

I have a feeling you're right about the price. The car is also for sale locally, so I've emailed the just for the hell of it to see what their set price is. One other question though: in this picture of the underside of the car, there's something on the right side next to the trunk (the tire compartment perhaps?) that seems to show some cracks and dents. Is that a bad thing to see, or is it something you wouldn't need to worry about? (I'm asking not just with this car in mind--just trying to get a better feel of what I can look for myself during my car search.) Thanks a bunch!

I would be more concerned about that red overspray from the paint job it got. Most good paint shops would mask that area to avoid overspray like that.

I would reccomend going in person for a test drive to avoid another "ive been screwed on ebay" thread.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I don't think it's rust, it looks like maybe the bottom on the spare tire well was pushed in when the car bottomed out? It's hard to tell much without seeing it in person. Another good reason for an inspection.

Freshly Rebuilt Engine????

I didn't see anything mentioned about rings, pistons, bearings, waterpump, valves, timing chain or any other internal parts. New Glow Plugs and oil filters do not make an engine rebuilt.
