'87 300Ds...

Hello everyone,

I have a chance to pick up one of these from a foolish owner for next to nothing, it drives very slow... typical 603 that needs a tune up. Anyway, it's a smoke silver with a beige interior. Interior is ~8.5 out of 10. Dash is great, driver seat has small crack. Great clear coat, etc.

Car shifts well, suspension is good, updated vac pump, No 14 head, etc. Just a good looking and good running car.

Anyway, what do these typicall sell for?

Everything works on this one, it was garage kept up until recently.

I thought these sold for more typically... I guess that's the TD wagon.

tune up? could it have a plugged Trap? if no trap suspect the Cat. If not those then the wastegate partially stuck open, thats what was wrong with my first '87 300Dt, paid $2550 for it. A/C worked and the interior is 8.5 on scale of 10 and exterior close to that except for the ugly US headlights, now replaced by Hella Euros an oh! it had just had a MZF transmission rebuild :)

I think it's the overboost solenoid, car has a replacement turbo from MB of NA on there. :)

Find me another SDL and we'll talk. :D I may just keep my stripper 560 and get my brother an SDL instead.

I hear that, I'm still shocked how I stole mine due to the few problems. :D I really want one with a bum motor so I can swap a good one into... or a 350SDL with SLS. One can dream, can't they? :)

Since you are in Texas, where Air Conditioning counts for a lot, I strongly recommend you verify the A/C is working well, or price the car accordingly. The typical failure mode on these W124s is the evaporator, which unfortunately is buried deep in the car's dash - a major repair and ex-pen-sive.

I lucked out and found one that had been a money pit for the previous owner. He had done the evaporator, new condensor, new aux. fan, and many other repairs. But he didn't know about resoldering the ACC unit in the dash, and the A/C was continuing to run in the OFF position. When I got the car I did the resolder bit and the climate control works perfectly now.

My price was $2500 a few years back. With A/C I think you're in the $2000-2500 range also. Without it, in Texas, the car may not be worth buying. :)

FWIW. I sold my '87 300D a month ago for $2500. AC was working.

Does that mean it has the number (No) 14 head or does that mean it does not have the 14 head?
