300SD turn signals stopped working..

Friend who bought the SD brought the car to me today and said the turn signals just stopped working. I checked the wiring and it was all connected properly. Neither the rear, front,or dash turn signals work

checked the fuse box and they were all fine. Had cleaned them with a wire brush just to make sure but still nothing....

help please.....

Sounds like a bad relay to me. It's located behind the instrument panel on the 300SD. Kind of a bugger to get to.

Just remove the instrument cluster, and behind a bundle of wires should be the turn signal/hazard relay. It's kind of hard to get to, but just unplug it, and plug the new relay in. A new relay shouldn't be over $40 online.

Ruben,

Before you disassemble anything, check to make sure your friend didn't accidentially press the hazard lights switch...I did this by setting a cup of coffee down on the switch, which moved it just enough so that it was no longer in the full off position...this will prevent the turn signals from functioning. So before major surgery, give the hazard switch a firm push so that you know it's truly off...it's a lot cheaper and easier than replacing relays.

Good luck,
Chris
