SDL 0-60 time.

10.63 seconds, done with a G Tech Pro so you can pretty much take that number to the bank.

Cars state of tune:
Crank to cam timing dead on, IP timing 15 ATDC. ALDA turned up slightly, just enough to make it feel 617 like under 2k. Car was empty except for me 3/4 of a tank of fuel, and everything turned off.

Weather:
78 degrees on dash, low humidity, no wind.

Street:
Level with a slight curve.

I think there is room for improvement, I am still running 8 month old winter fuel, certianly the cetane isn't as high as it could be. I didn't power brake, just stuck the shifter in 3rd and floored it. I also need to check what my turbo is putting out, never have. I think I can get that time to 10 seconds flat with only a small amount of effort.

Also the speedo is 5-8mph slow accelerating. It was just below 55 when the G tech indicated 60. I know its dead on cruising, I have ran it by radar trailers and its dead nuts.

Be nice if this was a sub 5 second car, eventualy...

That's a good time for the SDL. You might get a few tenths with proper fuel..........try a dose of Power Service when you fill it. Don't think you can reach 10 seconds with it, however.

When I checked this one with a watch, it was somewhere in the 10's as well.

I haven't checked it with the G-Tech yet.

Was the kickdown switch engaged? What were the shift rpms? Did you continue through a quarter mile?

So basically, a stock SDL runs to 60 mph in the same time as the 300D?

SDL's are supposed to reach about 10.6 seconds at 55 mph, stock (according to MB brochure).

Did you average two runs in opposite directions on the same strip?

No I only made one run, I was short on time. I'll do 5-6 eventualy and get an average.

Thumbs up

I can't recall what mine was, I timed it and posted. You could search for it if you'd like.

Maybe if you had power braked into the turbo, the time would've been better. 0-30 mph is really weak without it.

Below 10 seconds would be excellent. Astounding, really. Gsxr, before his full load adjustment in his '87 300D could only achieve 10 - 11 second 0-60 mph times, powerbraking.

10 seconds or so is extraordinary. Like I said, 0-55 mph is supposed to be 10.6 seconds, not 0-60.

BTW, I also noticed that issue, according to the GPS, of a slow speedometer. In fact, at 50 mph the tachometer should read 4800 - 4850. Mine reads 200 rpm higher. Once at speed, the speedometer is fairly accurate. My 350SD's speedometer is quite accurate. I ought to start timing that one.

I suspect there is a bit more to gain. Getting one of these cars below 10 seconds would require an interooler though. They are running pretty much at the limit stock. I wonder if I adjusted my IP timing to 14ATDC if I would or could gain anything?

Probably not worth it, one could go nuts warming over a 603 and what is their to gain a 1/4 of a second maybe?

Bet with an intercooler I could knock 2 seconds off that time...

That's not true! You could still turn your full load stop screw out all the way and have fun for 10 miles WOT!

Mine already gets below 10 seconds to 60 mph. But then again, the engine COOKS. Meaning, it overheats at WOT, very quickly. The injection pump was replaced shortly before I bought it, and the rack is advanced. It is pushed very far out (ALA full load stop). I cracked it open the other day.

I can not sustain WOT forever, as the oil pressure drops (along with an oil smell). The coolant temp will get close to 120.

The head is fine, and passes the pressure test easily.

Yes. I remember a video of yours (in fact I have a copy). However, it appeared your kickdown switch wasn't working too well.
