Damn, Child...

And I had to beat you over the head with my advice to get you to listen!:p Nellotare admitted that his suggestion would require a rocket scientist to decypher.

I'm glad you got your trunk open. I knew what I was telling you would work. I've seen many intelligent people baffled by that simple little "trick". Nyah, Nyah, Nyah...

Did your car come with an owner's manual? Now that you have the trunk opening sequence down to a fine art, you need to find that fuel door release I told you about before you find yourself locked out at a fuel station!

Longston, First of all...you're assuming that I'm a girl because my name is "Kelly". Wrong!!! LOL! It happens ALL THE TIME! Anyways, my 300SD came will all the proper books, up to date service records and even the informational cards (and the string) which were used to explain certain features. If you're interested, I'll "go fetch" and share!?!? Listen to this...I bought this "buggie" a few months ago for $1,000. Two years ago the previous owner spent $1,400 on a new trany and a year ago spent $1,200 on all new brakes! And of course I have those receipts, too! Can you dig it?!?!

Fuel Door

Longston, Allow me to understand your point regarding the fuel door. The problem will only arise IF I lock my car...correct? If so, no problem! I never lock my car, anyways, unless my wife asks me to because she want's to leave her purse behind.

Right now, Patsy is laughing her ass off at me (aren't you?).

Scheiss! (but, see how I have already redacted my heinous error, while maintaining the "flavor"?)

Oh well, I'll get over it. Fuel door? Not necessarily, it has a mind of it's own. Just check out the release it's in the manual, page 75. I also got the full owner's packet and tool kit! And I didn't pay $1000 But I bought a rust & salt free California car!

Does not matter how old it is, how many miles are on it, or how many former owners your car has had. They will help at no charge with jumpstarts, tire changes, and "a few gallons of fuel".

You ARE cracking me up, over here! Since I've been able to open my trunk, I noticed that, I too have a tool kit. Certainly not the most impressive or quality set but I CAN claim that I have it! I was also looking for the first aid kit on eBay with little luck. I noticed that their are a few different sizes. which size do I get. Another question: The knucklehead whom I stole this from used a spray can to paint the (original) alloy rims gold ...Yuck!!! Since she's in need of some new Bilstein shocks (unless you suggest differently) I've decided not to drive her until the rims are refinished (I'm not sure where to go) and new shocks are installed.

Glad you got it open.. and it didn't take the whole weekend! I have to admit, this has been one of the "funner" posts. But tell us, did you have to pull hard on the trunk lid? It didn't just "pop" open did it? I also have to admit that when I had my Jaguar I was jealous of the trunk lock for an MB. The Jag only had 2 positions and if you locked the doors, you had to get the key to unlock the trunk.. it then stayed unlocked until you locked the doors again. (unless you wanted to keep it locked and then you used to key all the time) When I found out that a friend of mine's MB had that third position that allowed one to lock and unlock the trunk in conjuction with the doors.. I went wild.. what a concept! But then sometimes I am easily amused. What's amusing to me now is that I don't have a trunk lock on my MB now. I only have the valet key (the vehicle was repossessed.. but not by Linda Blair) In public, I take the key out and move it toward the lock, then stick my finger in the hole and push, then pull the lid open. I'm just paranoid enough to do this routine in case there are nefarious people watching me. Congrats to all.. What a joy to be able to see inside one's own trunk.

Glad to see you got it open.

Personally, I always leave my trunk unlocked, I can hit the button when I want it open. Thanks to the vacuum system though, when I lock the driver's door, the trunk locks as well.

So if I go to the store and lock up, the trunk locks. If I need in the trunk, I just turn the key about 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise and push in to open. Any other time the trunk is unlocked and all I have to do is push the button.

I can't speak for such a new car, but your system my be similar.

Hey Kelly, congrats.

Longston, yes as always.

I have the original First Aid Kit with the original owners blood all over it from that one band-aid use. Maybe you could measure the space it fills to know which kit to order.

To find owner's blood in first aid kit is gross!

I would have sent the MB for a thorough sterilisation in and out!

Well, Here's Monday...Hope everyone has a terrific week.

During the weekend, I kept going into the garage to open the boot (that IS what German's call the trunk, correct?). My wife thought I was crazy. She didn't even come out to the garage to see it or to "celebrate" my victory! She's unimpressed with cars...that's a big "drag" for me because cars are my favorite things (next to gem stones, that is!)

Anyways...nellotare-After unlocking the boot, it lifted effortlessly. Initially the seal was a bit sticky, but after it opened for the first time, I had no problems. I did notice that the trunk light is broken; some of the glass fell out into the trunk, but I can still hear some within the lid, when the lid swings open. I don't know how I'm going to get that broken glass out of the lid!

Thank you all, again!

1974 450 SEL trunk lock issue

I want to whole heartedly thank the individual who suggested to put the square key in turn to the horizontal, then push, (counter clockwise) continue turning till you can't (45 degree angle) and it worked like a charm!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this is on the older model, I assume it works on most MB's thru the mid 80's.
