When I open the A/C system, how long is too long?

Okay, bought the comressor, and expansion valve, and a receiver, an o-ring kit, have the freeze 12 from DG, and PSYCHED up about getting greasy this weekend. Then, I found out the Army Base Hobby Shop isn't open until next weds (96 hours from now). If I crack into the a/c, blow things out, new o-rings, reassemble, is it gng to hurt anything to have air in the system and no vaccum for almost 4 days? Should I wait till monday to crack it open (2days)?

System is currently R-12, all original so far. If the Hobby Shop has a reasonable price for R12 and it holds vaccum, I may fill with R-12.

He's got a new receiver, isn't that the same thing?

You should be fine. Don't forget the new mineral oil if you stick with r12.

Just don't open the drier until you are ready to hook up the vacuum pump.

Install the drier dead last before you seal up the system. Opening up the system and exposing the drier for very long will ruin the desicant. Make sure you pull a vacuum on it for about 1 hour and let it sit another to make sure there is no leaks.
