Thumbs up anyone got a mondeo diesel

Hi, Looking for "real life" info on the ford mondeo probably from 3 years to
present day age. Anyone got any experience with likes and dislikes how good
the deisel engines are. will be in the market for a car soon prefer to keep costs to about 8k-9k mark but would like to know how well the mondeo's perform.

Thanks for any info received

Here's a little bit of help

Ummmm would you happen to be in the UK by some chance?

They never sold the Mondeo here in the United States, diesel or otherwise...

They are a "Reps" car over there I understand, like the BMW 318, Mercedes C180, Vauxhall Cavalier, the old Ford Sierra, etc. so I'm sure any Brits reading here will have good information for you. Sorry I don't though.

Check CAR, What? Car, and other UK publications too.

The British "Used Car Buyer" for 2004 says, inter alia, says the Mondeo TDCi diesel (Years 2000 and up) "is GREAT, well built and comfortable, nothing to watch out for except scruffy company cars, now around at some very tempting prices, lots to choose from, best in silver, blue or grey".

YMMV, usual disclaimers etc

When I was in France in 2000, I rented a Mondeo 5 door from Hertz, 5 speed Manual with a TDi apparently supplied by VW. I was very impressed by it, overall it was a good package, engine a little buzzy at 160+ km/h but I didn't expect all that anyway for what I was using it for.

My dad was in Scotland about a month ago and got a new Modeo Diesel, said he loved it, and was impressed with it.

Just my .02 Euros.

I think the Ford Contour/ mercury mystique were the same car in the 90s. Alas... no diesel here.

Ford cars are junk, so are the engines and trans in said Ford cars.

Ford makes only two cars that are worth buying:
Crown Vic
New Mustang

The Mondeo is offered everywhere except here.

THe Mondeo in China won 2005 Car of the Year. Euro Mondeos are great vehicles. If you want to call Ford cars 'junk' at least say the American model offerings are junk. European/Worldwide platforms may be not as unreliable.

I'm a Ford guy, but Hatterasguy is pretty accurate, none of their cars are very inspiring.

I have been driving Panther Platform (Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, TOwn Cars, Marauder) cars for over 12 years and they are very trouble free for what they have to offer, traditional, body on frame rear wheel drive Sedans.

Just my .02

Yup, Mondeo Platform albeit the 1st gen Mondeo.

Fusion/Milan/Zephyr- Mazda6 Platform
500/Montego- Volvo S80

But then again, GM does the same
Saab 9-7X SUV- GMT360 Platform (trailblazer)
Saab 9-2X Subaru Impreza
Various Mid Size GM Cars- Sigma Platform from Europe
Catera- Opel Platform
etc etc....

Wodnek is right, the Mondeo was sold as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique in the US. My parents have a 1995 Mystique LS with the sport suspension and V6. I drove it in the mountains and couldn't believe how well it handled and the power it had, and still does. Been relatively trouble free other than a bad coil and, oddly enough, a broken front spring. The 4-cylinder is a different story. Not enough power for the size of car and they have a bad habit of breaking timing belts and destroying the engine (V6 uses a chain). Can't say a whole lot for the styling though. Be fun to have a diesel version on the same car. Bet it would get great fuel mileage.

As far as Hatterasguy's statement that all Ford cars are junk with bad engines and transmissions, every car maker has their successes and failures. You always hear of the failures. My sister has a 1990 Mercury Topaz with 170,000 miles, with only a handful of minor issues, and none transmission or engine related. Chrysler has had their share of crappy transmissions for decades and bad valve stem seals spewing blue smoke on acceleration. GM had trouble with their 4-cylinders, timing gears and other issues, especially back in the '80's. And Ford had head gasket trouble on some V6 engines in the early '90's. And I'm sure the foreign cars have similar stories (including the rod-bending Mercedes diesels I keep hearing about from the late '80's). Some cars are gems, some are lemons, no matter the make or model.

Diesel and dust!

Don’t burn any midnight oil on this. Diesel will be in once the Ford Mondeo hits the road. Presenting a full road-test.

Edit: found more. Ford's Mondeo TD can be fun

KCM, Escort, one of my friends had one. Only slightly better then a bike.

Sorry I am family with most of the Ford sedans offered, I think I can safely say I wil never be slightly tempted to buy one.

Now the Mustang is a different animal...I could get used to the idea of a new Mustang.
