What engine oil in a 1998 E300,

I always bought Mobil 1 5W-40 from Walmart here in Atlanta, but Seems like I can't find it anymore. Did they discontinued it at Walmart or something?

It's in the process of being reformulated/rebranded by Mobil. I haven't been able to find it either.

I've been using the Rotella Full Synthetic 5w40 so far with good results. It's also sold at Wal-Mart. It's also less expensive.

The dealers use the Mobil 1 0W-40 "european" car oil which is also diesel rated and it's what they had used in my '98 until I started using the 5W-40 Truck/SUV. As others have said, Mobil is in the process of repackaging the 5W-40 for diesel and it should hit the shelves soon, but in the mean time either the Delvac 1 (which is the same as the M1 5W-40) or Rotella synthetic would be fine substitutes.

You can also consider using Amsoil or Red Line oil, but you probably won't find them in any retail store and they have to be mail-ordered. I use Red Line oil in all my vehicles.

Not always. My friend used to buy from his neighbour who is a local distributor. I got it from the Bumper to Bumper store nearby.

Are you talking about Red Line? You can get it from Summit Racing if you have a store in your town, but I saw that they only have 3 stores nationwide, and one of them happens to be in my town. But there are other dealers for both companies, so yes you can buy from a dealer if you find one.

I use Mobil 1 0W-40 full synthetic in my '98. I used to get it for $5.50/quart at the dealership. I change my oil every 7,500 miles. It's actually cheaper than using dino and changing it every 3,000 miles.

How do you figure you get 7500? One time I was due for a B service and had to change to an A service because I went pver 13500 miles.
