Since you've verified your speedo that makes this a whole lot more interesting... To me it seems like there is something thats missing still, but I have heard of two different W116 SD's having 10-11 sec 0-60's. I think our rear end has a different ratio though.

Please please please take your car to the dyno. Or get one of those G-Tech Pro devices. That will make us believe you for sure!!!

not getting an expensive gtech, but I could setup a video camera to focus on the speedo, and hit the go pedal and upload it for you guys... set the timer, or when it's uploaded to Utube, use it's timer to verify my time.
that would eliminate the human side of errors, but would not be truly accurate.

maybe I have a low gear ratio rear end... the thing will burn out in corners if I hit them under the right conditions... like at peak turbo boost.
I bought a vac/boost guage I will install to see if I am getting massive boost or something.
oh, the seal is still in place on the alda...
I guess the wastegate could be stuck in the closed position.
handles highway drives fine. passes without problem, easily first out of the light at intersections. steady 80C water temp, so it's not getting too hot. no black smoke on hard acceleration, but I do get some gray smoke on hard acceleration that I can see at night in the rear view mirror through follower's headlights, however I attribute that to valve seals/guides...
keep the ideas coming.

PS: The last time I tried 0-60 with boost at 12.5 and ALDA screw turned all the way as far as it will go, I powerbraked it on the line to spool up the turbo and actually did a burnout! Holy crap, never would have thought it could do that on dry pavement!

With an automatic trans I think its better just to floor it. If you build up the rpm's its hell on the tranny and you cannot repeat the times as easy. But yeah if you break torque them a bit you get off the line a bit faster, I don't think its worth beating on it that much for 1/2 a second better time.
A G Tech Pro or on a drag strip is really the only way to get accurite times, I'm still not buying it.

put a stick in it. my euro 300d will burn all the way thru a tire if I really get on it.

my SD is fast as well, not sure exact 0-60 but, ive also messed around with it, when racing a friends celica, i preloaded and actually did a burnout on dry pavement with ease..... as for the race, we were just about neck and neck the whole time, after the race i realized i actually had my a/c on as well.....

Curious - what are your indicated RPMs in high gear at 40, 60, 80 mph?

tach gone bye bye... idiot that I am, left the car in my yard for 5 years with a trunk seal broken... a little bit of corrosion on all the electronic parts in the car.
hardly anything works. no radio, no tach, no clock, no odometer (although, I hear that's a busted gear in the speedometer, so I may get around to fixing it, or I may pull the cluster out of my parts car and do some frankenstining) sure would be nice to have a good odometer again, and the turn signals do funny things, like make the tach peg at 6000 rpm, and buzz really fast.
anywhoo, I will keep plugging away at this monster. I love the car, and will have it always.

Personally, that would have me scared to death if my E300 did it!

I find the best way to get a time in the E300 (606 turbo) is simply to floor the pedal in drive; the electronic trans will automatically allow redline in each gear. Power flow is linear, increasing with revs, and 60mph can be accomplished in 3rd gear. Turn off ESP and it may actually chirp the tires!

I've found another way of having fun in addition to 0-60: get it up to about 20mph--make sure the trans is in 3rd gear--and bury the pedal, hitting the kickdown switch. The car slams into 2nd, knocking your head back, and redline follows shortly. Powering through the gears, what was once a dutiful, unassertive E-class becomes a roaring, whining, smoking racing machine!!

I just thought I would bump this one up and get some more feedback. I'll be driving this car up to asheville tomorrow, and figured I'd have some fun while I'm at it.

Cool read..

FWIW all my MB's will power brake, no problem. Smoke just rollin off the tires(tire). Great way to destroy a flex disk

If the flex disc is in good shape it should be no issue. I've power braked my SD and beat quite a few cars off the line. If you can build some rpm's and boost prior to actually moving off, they can fly!

My 300E is WAY faster though. I recently raced someone in an older Jetta GTI and it was neck and neck to about 70, I was about 1.5 car length's ahead the whole time. Felt pretty good.

I think that most of the posted information is really 0-100km/h, which is really 0-62.5mph or so.

So that could be one side of it.

The other side of it could be that the OPs car could be over-boosted, over-fueled, have something sufficiently loose that it frees up the car a bit.

At the same time, most likely the timing is suspect - what was the method used? Half second here and there makes a difference and may not be perceivable to the person doing it.
