Best way to securely mount something to a W123 dash?

Hi, I'm looking for the best way to securely mount this piece to the dash of my 123. It is one of the end pieces of this. It's going to be extended, and made to hold a 15" LCD screen. I am aware of the illegalities of having a screen in view of the driver in some states. No worries, it's not for watching DVDs or anything- the plan is for GPS. I need to mount the piece in the first picture somewhere very secure in the dash. I'm not sure where is best for this. Ideally, there'd be a good structural support somewhere that I could drill and tap into, but that's probably not a reality. Where is the most solid place in the dash or center console that I can put this thing? Here is a picture of my dash/console area, courtesy of MBeige's gallery.

Thanks!

Any flat spot on the dash should work well. The foam/pad is about 1/2" thick but it's steel lined underneath. Drill four holes and use some machine screws and nuts/washers. Be sure to post your GPS results.

The only worry I have is that it will block a good % of your windshield view if dash mounted.

Nice, how thick is the steel? I really want to be sure before I drill any holes, so can you tell me where exactly the steel is? Planning on having the screen below windshield area.

the steel is pretty much under the whole dash (Anywhere on the flat surface of the dash would be good). It looks like ~2mm thick. Plenty strong for an LCD screen if you use all 4 mounting holes.
