I would say heck no!
Now, the variable of course, is how much cash we're talking about.....

How good of shape is the Camry in? Your 190D?

It would be another engine you would need special tools to work on. I saw one of those toyotas once, it was messed up but it made me want one in good shape.

PEH speaks the truth. I can't imagine parts are easy to come by on that car. And I doubt there is allot of tech support out there. You have a question on your 190D, you come here and ask.
You have a question on your Camry diesel.......
Anyone?
Anyone?
Anyone?

The Camry is a turbodiesel AFAIK. My mom had an 84 gasser so I had a factory manual which BTW covered Diesel models. Pity I gave the manual to the new owner.

Is it AT or MT? Will he sell it outright?

Howdy Mate:

I believe there have been some good points suggested so far.

Your 190D is a more luxo performance diesel - his camry is a basic transport

I own both german and japanese diesel- high points for both

I will say the german diesels require more attention than japanese, within reason.

i rebuild both so I have some experience- Parts will be a little difficult to come by on the Camry- althought there is one Toyota Dealer in B.C. that gives really good prices and shipping cost is very reasonable - but you have to wait a really long time - upwards of 3-4 weeks to access parts and recieve them

Your tech support on the Mercedes is infinetely better

He wants your car for a reason- Yes?

He also has a very good car ...

I suppose it all depends on what you expect from your vehicle

Good luck

Peace

Your 190 would have to be in very poor shape to interest me in that Japanese econo crap pile.
Remember, you have a Mercedes Benz. He has a Toyota.
What a plain looking car that Camry is.
Snap out of it!!!

If you wanted to sell your 190D you would have folks here lining up to buy it.
Dude!!!!

Which one would *you* rather be in, in an accident?

The Mercedes or the tin can? (Even though it is a very reliable tin can)

Some years of Camries get better crash test ratings than Mercedes of the same year... but I wouldn't expect 1984 to be one of them.

An 85 Camry diesel might tend to be more reliable than an 84 190D, BUT diesel-specific parts for that Toyota may be very hard to come by, (parts were getting hard to find 15 years ago when I last worked on a diesel Camry) and the Mercedes should be safer and better handling.

Now maybe if it was a late '90s Camry....

Happy Motoring, Mark
