howdy folks:

I am working on an 81 300TD with a OM 617 engine transplant

dunno where there engine came from - just that the air filter housing does not fit quite right - had to extent the turbo tube with foil tape

The question - wont shift into 4th gear- dunno if this is a 722.3 trans or 722.4- is there a difinitive way to tell by sight besides gathering the serial no off the casing?

I will be doing vacuum diagnostic tomorrow morning for the trans and the sometimes working door locks- brakes work fine - in extreme heat will take 1+ min to shut down after key is out - vacuum leak somewheres

Check the air filter housing mounts, they tend to break. That could be your problem with the non-fitting.

Nope - mounts were actually moved forward - all 3 - aprox .75 inch

Whoever did the work redrilled the mounting bracket
