yet another good for 500K miles, but this one I believe

I believe it because I put it there. The car I've listed for a friend is soooo sweet. Anyone care to find flaws? comment on the buy it now? etc. I'm willing to listen.

The alternator looks newer too. I noticed that one of the A/C lines looks newer...is that why the A/C line that normally is in front of the valve cover, is absent?

Nice SD

126 chassis doen't have the a/c line in front of the valve cover, only the 123.
on 126 the expansion valve is on the drivers side so the lines enter on that side, on the 123 the expansion valve is on the passenger side, so the lines have to go from the a/c compressor across the front of the valve cover, then into the passenger compartment

Looks like a nice example! At that buy it now price I would love to see it fully detailed- hand polished and waxed, emblems cleaned, soot removed, grille shined, trim shined, tires dressed, wheels painted- polished cleaned and waxed, etc.

Leaving it bare lets buyers see what they are working with, which is great. But if the car is going to be going for a premium, its nice to see that it has been properly presented. Little details make a cars appearance and value change dramatically.

The interior is IMMACULATE. If it had a set of factory floor mats it would add a nice touch... again, if you really want to suck a buyer in at $12,000 these are the details that show.

Hope you get what you are hoping for it. It looks like a VERY well preserved 300SD, and it definitely shows. Nice car.
I have no doubt that it will sell at an above average price. Maybe not $12K, but higher than average. Good luck!

Now that you mention it, and, that I think back on my 126 (eventhough it was a 420), I do remember the lines being on that side. -thanks

Am I the only one who is noticing that the fuel in the prefilter on that car is RED/PINK? Running some offroad dyed diesel there??? Also, the air filter is an up-on-the-engine one, the '85's had the alternate air filter box that was down on the passenger fender, is this the car's original engine/tranny? Seems unusual....

The pinstripe looks weird....and the tranny cooling lines from the radiator are originals, so it probably has an old(original) radiator too, and its loaded up with ucky non-mb green coolant too. Lots of new parts and stuff though, overall a very nice car, and its rust free!!! It has only 500 more miles on it than my car did when I got it, but I bet this one will sell for a lot more than mine did, I also would not want the ABS or air bag stuff....very nice looking car though.

I believe the air cleaner location on the passenger fender was a California-only mod. The addition of the smog device forces the turbo to sit high, leaving no room for the air filter. Moving the filter forward was the result. It is that way on my 1985 300D Turbo and I believe that the SD had the same engine. This, therefore, is a "Federal" version.

It looks like a very clean car, but IMHO, you are unlikely to get the BIN price due to the 207k miles. I think $8K, or so, is more likely. Also, I would include more detail about the maintenance history of the car. What major maintenance has already been completed (timing chain condition, transmission, half shafts, steering, suspension, vacuum pump, oil cooler hoses, etc.)? Any of the above are likely to be due within the next 100K miles if they haven't been done yet.

Based on the photos, it appears that the car has had more cosmetic attention than mechanical attention. I would definitely detail the engine compartment, it's pretty clean but not clean enough for $12. Mine is cleaner, and I just got back from a 2000 mile trip. I noticed the old type hand fuel pump, and one of the front shocks looked a little wet. Also a little leakage around the oil pan, oil separator return line, and differential seal. Also, the photo labeled "A/C and Oil cooler" seem to be showing the transmission cooler lines, not the A/C lines. I suspect detailing the engine and providing more maintenance history could get you somewhat closer to your price.

It does look like a nice car, good luck.

I'm in agreement with Craig.

It's a good example, but there are far too many issues for this vehicle to sell for $12K. Wheels that need attention, various dings in the doors and chips in the paint, a dash crack, not pristine underhood, some oil leaks, door seals that are a bit tired, console wood that's seen better days, and 207K on the clock for starters.

Also, there is absolutely no discussion on the mechanical condition of the vehicle other to state that it does not smoke.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised at this Marty. If you are looking for a premium price, the maintenance history should be detailed right in the listing. For all I know, everything on this vehicle is original........from shocks to front end to transmission to a/c to rear suspension components.

My guess: $5.8K and not a penny more.

Well, I also guessed $5.8K, but then I applied the universal eBay multiplier of 137.9% to get $8K.
