I agree with your recommendation that it is better to use the OEM belts if they are available, but sometimes you have to use what you can get.

I actually have used "generic" part store belts on my alternator/water pump in the past. As I recall, I had them match an old belt for length and it was a tight fit to install, but I was able to use it. I suspect the real problem is with their catalog data, not with the belts. Now I carry a spare alternator/water pump belt.

Its a retcheted box end wrench, once you get on the nut/bolt just "back and forth", handy for tight places, not a cheap investment tho Also good for removing glow plugs and their wires.
