Man it's HOT!
Sunday, I was returning from San Antonio and about 5 miles outside of the town of Stephenville, Blue Belle started blowing hot air. Upon opening the hood, I discovered that she had decided that the belts needed replacing. Fortunately, she retained one of the belts for the alternator/water pump so I was able to limp into town and a parts store using armstrong steering.
I snagged the only shaded parking spot on the lot and proceded to install new belts in 107-108F degree heat.sweatdrop Most were pretty easy except the a/c compressor didn't want to budge more than 1/2" at first. And with sweat running in my eyes, I couldn't see what the hold up was. After losing about 2-3 qts, and soaked coveralls, I finally got them installed and adjusted for tension. She purred the rest of the way home making a fashion statement with her new belts.

It was only 105 today!
That AC belt can be a pain. I usually have to remove all 3 bolts holding the compressor to get the belt on.....

The other thing I noticed while loosening the compressor was there appeared to be a bolt missing. When the pivot bolt was backed off, there was a small bracket, between the head of the bolt and the compressor, which flopped down. It appeared to be part of a clamp for the refrigerant lines. I couldn't see very clearly but isn't there supposed to be a bolt going through the bracket attached to the cooling lines and the one that flopped down?

I carry a gallon of water and a towel with me this time of year. It's too easy to get dehydrated.
Maybe we will get a break from the 100+ days with Edouard. |
