I saw once a video where a 123 was dragging another car, may have been a 201 or a 124 but that 123 killed it. There was a lot of black smoke, but the acceleration was amazing. I may have it saved in my docs.

If we're talking about the same car, green W123, it has OM606 swap inside. Car runs high 12's and it's an around the year commuter, including Finnish winter.

Yes, I just watched the video, looks gray like mine but could be green
I kind of guessed that it had a different engine

Traveling to Helsinki in September...

I'll be in Helsinki from 3 September through 9 September, 2006 with nothing but free time on my hands.

If it is at all possible to meet up with any of the Jumalas of dieseldom, I would be most honored to buy a round or two of everyone's favorite adult elixir and try my best to understand since I speak/read no Finnish.

Suggestions on what to see and do for 5 days would be most appreciated.

I believe the answer you'll get from any Finn is 'sauna'. All 5 days.

Very nice.
I recall setting up a few fools before LaManns. The bet was that a Diesel could not perform like a gasser.

I just love the black smoke from the engine and then the rubber smoke.

Cheers,

Talking so pleased I own a Mercedes right now

I have been lamenting over the car I bought for 2 weeks, but now, in all honesty, I can safely say thay that I am now in a better frame of mind when I look a this thread. Thank you all.

Now, how can I get my W123 OM617 to do that?
oh, wait- I have an automatic.

better start saving up for a 606 and holset and MYNA diesel injection pump and a big intercooler.. the 617 is limited due to its not cross flow and 2 valves per cylinder are limiting

did you guys see the vid of the car on the dyno.. the turbo whine made me smile...
