2.5 downpipe for 87 D/TD?
Looking through the Performance Products catalog, I see that a downpipe for a 2.5 is a 'mere' $150 vs $950 for an 87 D/TD downpipe. Obviously the difference is the oxidation catalyst. But will a 2.5 downpipe fit an 87? I'd be the first to order that for my 87* if it fits or is easily modified... uhh... because I do a lot of off-roading, of course.
* = no, I don't have an 87 :p Sixto ... stay tuned |

Does CA check emissions on an 87 diesel?
If CA checks emissions on your car, will you switch the pipe out every year at inspection time? I have heard of Alfa Romeo people in CA switching out parts to pass emissions inspection every year. These are older cars since the emissions stuff is built into the newer cars.

They don't check Diesels in California... yet. I'd chance it because I doubt the smog jock would know there's supposed to be something there. There isn't in 75-85 300Ds nor in 90-93 300Ds, why should an 87 be any different? From an inspection standpoint I mean. Might be more of an issue in a strict Diesel state like Arizona.
Seems like an easy item to replace every couple of years. Especially where rust isn't an issue. Does the oxidation catalyst do anything to clean WVO emissions? Sixto ... stay tuned |
