OM603 filter in fuel tank?
Does anyone know if there is a filter located in the fuel tank of a 87 300td OM 603?If so, what is the best way to go about changing that filter out;I am getting alot of dirt in the plastic see through prefilter..thanks

I can speak for mine
In my 1983 300cd there is a window screen sized mesh filter built into the fuel pickup, where the fuel line goes into the tank. The whole thing is removable, but not easily. It was pretty clean when I took it out anyway. I think the used vegetable oil and gasoline I was using for fuel cleaned it out.

Yes the OM603 engined vehicles, has a in tank screen filter. You dont have to replace it since it was meant to be cleaned but if youd like to replace it autohuasaz.com has them for around $20.
The best way to clean it is to soak it in gas and maybe hose it off with water. Let it dry of course! Its hard to remove the thing and try to use up as much fuel as you can before removing it. otherwise youll drain a crap load of fuel.
