Is that normal ??? Fuel filter picture
Is it normal for this filter to have air in it along with the fuel ?

EDIT: Sorry, I misread.
He is correct, a small bubble as shown is perfectly ok. When it starts getting bigger you know your low on fuel... or at least its that way in my car. Last edited by 1985 300SD Sady; 06-19-2006 at 05:50 PM. |

To answer the original question it is perfectly ok to have an air bubble in the pre-filter.

How long has that filter been in service? Looks way overdue for replacement.

Filter is dirty and needs to be changed, the fuel line also looks old and is probably due. I'd replace original primer pump as well.
But yes an air bubble is normal.

small - 3 bb sized (smaller than dime)
when racing the engine if you see air coming in thats a problem.

I wanted to replace BOTH filters by my local autozone is Out of stock on both.

Autozone is unable to supply parts for Mercedes, I would avoid them as much as possible.

No need to throw parts at the problem.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Unless that primer pump leaks, don't replace it. The fuel filters are cheap enough to replace whenever they get black like that, however.

My theory is its old, I'd rather replace it so it doesn't break (or in this case leak) on me.
