That only applies to filters for 616/617. I don't think Fram has such a filter for 603. I would seek Brian Carlson's advice on 603 filters.

Leaks, turbocharger and IP.

Maybe a quart in 1000 miles...

MB updated a lot when the built the 603. I have seen many very high mileage 603 and 606 that have zero blow by or oil usage. I wonder what they changed?

I purchase oil filters through the dealer.

Very very little...

Here's some history on my 87 603, original head etc.
Prior I was using Rotella dino changed at 5000 miles only burned 1/2 quart 75 hwy 25 cty

Now use Rotella Synthetic and change every 10K miles Oil consumption 1/4-1/2 quart. Odd, but I use less synthetic than dino, and no leaks either after the switch.

The interesting part is what I capture in my crankcase catchcan, since it is a small one I was getting about 4oz of blowby oil in the can every tank of gas, I would always return this oil back into the engine, so some of your oil consumption may be due to blowby as well as consumption. I'm truely suprised at only 1/2 quart in 10k miles with well over 220k on the engine.

Has anyone bought and cut open an "official MB dealership" filter yet? I am curious to see whats inside....we only have like 1 or 2 hengst ones left, (I've been going through them fast! ) So maybe I'll buy one or two there and see whats inside (after it has been used of course). I think they are over $13 though, so I may just keep using the $9 hengst ones from phil, no sense in wasting that extra $4-6 per filter when my car has made it this far on cotton gin waste....

Yes I did, a little over a year ago actualy. I don't just use dealer filters for my health, I spent a few bucks and some time last year cutting open new oil filters.

Lets see I did a dealer, Hengst, and Fram maybe a couple others I forget now. Notice which one is in my 603...

So what is the material like inside the dealer/MB filters? If its good stuff I'll be heading over there in a couple weeks for my next filter.....since I have been driving about 600-800 miles a week I've been doing oil changes pretty often lately!!

Something with the rings/oil vapor system I can guess. The 603 does not have that oil tube found on 617s

Clean tightly packed cotten. With a small amount of brown shell parts but nothing like what other people have been finding. I lost 1/2 a bar of oil pressure with the Fram everyone loves so I dumped it after only a few miles.

Our 603 neither burns nor leaks a drop of oil. For the most part.
