a/c questions on a gasser. sorry...

as you all know my mom bought a 190e2.3 a few months back. when we got it it had the 134a fittings. i have done work since purchase for the people that owned it and i know when they so called "converted it all they did was put the fittings on and shoot unweighed amounts of 134 in it. when we bought it he said all it needs is freon(the usual story ) well i pulled the fittings off, pulled a deep vacuum and shot the proper weighed amount of r12 in with some dye. it still hasent leaked out so i have been unable to find a leak. the problem is on hot summer days, i mean REAL HOT the times its needed most the comp. doesnt kick on. so all we get is hot air. im catchin alot of s*it over this matter. i turned to the diesel discussion because the most knowlegable members are on here. please help me with this, i wanna stop hearin about it. thank you all in advance.

not an expert but I play one on TV

If that is really all they did ( fittings and combine refrigerants)... then you really needed to flush/install new oil in the system before pulling that vacuum... and you did not say that you installed a new Rec/Dryer...which would have been SOP in that situation in my opinion...
What are your guage readings after 10 minutes at high idle with the blower on Max ? What are your center vent temperatures at low blower speed ...and what are the ambient temperatures outside during these readings ?

no i didnt flush it. i know i know, shame on me. i didnt change the drier either. when i charged it i both weighed it and watched the guages. i stopped when they were both very close on spec. the temp i didnt guage because im missing my therm. it was very nice and cold. it still is when it decides to work. i hate it when people imroperly convert to 134. thanks for the answers, its much appreciated

Does it work and then quit or on a hot day won't kick in at all ?
Do you have the settings on the dash the same when it works as when it won't kick in ?
What kind of compressor does a 190 have ?
Does your system have one of those crank speed sensing relays ?
How much R-12 does it use ?
my books are all 123's...not past 1985 printing...

yea it quits all of a sudden, sometimes you get in and it wont work. most of the time the settings are the same. sometimes if you put it on dehumidifier it will kick on and other times there is just no hope. when you turn the ac on the idle dropps real low. i dont know what kind of comp. it has. ill have to check into that.. i really dont know about the crank sensing relay. im a diesel 126 man thats all i know.
it takes 2.2lbs

Without a book of some sorts for your car we are flying blind .... I am not even sure that your car has a cycling clutch type system . Any chance you have an orifice tube system ?
Can you take pictures of the parts of your system ?
Have you checked for 12 volts at the compressor wire when the dash control switch is on and it is not working ? Starte there and tree back to the furthest place the 12 volts is getting to....
