Having Problems Finding Parts - Need some help!
 

New to the forum, so hello, and thank you all in advance for any help yall can provdie.

1st item, have a 1973-220D engine (615.912), that we put onto our mulcher, and we have been having a heck of a time finding some parts. Specifically an Oil Pressure Sending Unit, and a Fan (not the fan clutch), just the fan itself. Any suggestions on where such items can be found. Most parts places just laugh when we call, or want to sell us a complete fan assembly, with fan & clutch, etc. Been trying junk yards, but that is like trying to find a neddle in a hay stack.

2nd item, read where others had sent their cards/computers into SpeedTuning, so I did that on my 1999 E300TD. WOW is all I can say, worth every penny. Fuel milage went all to hell, but who cares, thing runs fast as sheet. Thanks for whoever found that place.

3rd item, been runing my 1999 E300TD on every blend of Biodiesel imaginable, and can not seem to find one blend that works better than the others. But the car definatly love bio.

Any help on the parts would be great. Thanks in advance.

Why are you trying to stay proprietary ( MB?)
no wonder those guys are laughing at you....

oil pressure is oil pressure.... find some brass fittings which will plumb you up to the right hole and screw in some generic oil pressure sender... or convert to mechanical and run the open tube to the guage...

Would like to see pictures of your set up since I am in the process of using a 240d engine to run a DC welder, air compressor, water pump, and whatever else I can dream up from it on a trailer..

Older Mercs have all line pressure gauge, nothing electric until early 80s.

I am sure u can find right adaptor from oil filter run a tube to the gauge.

Beware of cranking engine too hard at the expense of longevity though.

Or run a small elec fan, put bigger rad in too.
U have lots of room any ways.
Elec fan will decrease the stress on the water pump.
Go rummage thru used parts , junk yards etc.
Viscous coupling/fan clutch can be a PITA too.

Thanks, guess I just wasn't trying to be creative engouh. I would really like to get the fan thing figured out though, since I have the entire thing all rigged up except the fan, and all I need to do is bolt the darn thing into place, max a couple minutes of work. Really did not want to go and re-rig up something else. Radiator, everyting is all in place, ready to go, just need a fan to bolt on and all is well in the world.

Will get on the oil deal, never really thought about just sticking something else on there. Feel pretty dumb now.

Will be happy to post a picture of a Mercedes powered mulcher. Originally it had a Kubota motor, but that thing was under powered, and when this motor came available for free, I knew just where it had to go. Cost about $500 to get the flywheel machined and balanced to adapt to the setup, but other than that, it was no big deal.

I may have a suitable fan from a 220 gas engine.
Do you need the metal extension (it includes the pulley for a belt) ?
You will need that all I have is a plastic fan.
I do not have a fan clutch. I don't think they used one on the 115 chassis.

Well, now you are getting smart... posting your location...
I am about 30 miles from you...and can point you to a parts 220 gasser at the edge of Temple if that might help... and it has a column mounted four speed shifter also...

try to find parts from domestic cars like ford. the fan clutch flange for the 1997 ford ranger, 2.3 , fits perfect on the mercedes water pump hub. but the fan blade diameter is a little smaller though.

Unless I miss my guess, there aint no fan clutch on the 220D same as the later 240D - just a simple 4 bolt fan that bolts onto the water pump hub.

After clobbering a deer last year, replaced the fan on my '79 240 with aftermarket universal generic fan that had slots for the 4 bolts and was available right off the shelf at my nearest autozone - $7.99. And better than the MB original too with larger blades and steeper pitch for displacing more air.

(edit: I think you're out of your mind using the telephone to find parts and mentioning its for a 30 yr old mercedes. Betcha plenty of the parts stores you called were laughing their asses off. But dont worry you'll get the last laugh when you walk in the door and pick up a *universal generic 4 bolt fan* that's sitting on the shelf right next to them.

I am sure you can find some of the parts you need at the local pick and pull. I saw one the other day.

Last time I was there (Sun Valley) they had no older Mercedes. They buy a lot of later models, I get parts there occasionally and have always been pleased. Except they don't allow you to wander around the lot, they insist they pull the parts which is their policy :mad: .
Finding an old 220 parts car is tough these days.
Personally I would stick an electric fan on there!
Also, I believe that '73 used a thermo tube (direct line) from the engine to the temp gauge, if so that could be converted to an electric gauge if you find the sender off a later model and a suitable VDO gaouge.
