Federalized electrical hell.
My 83 Euro NA 300D must have had an interesting life. Life started in Deutchland, only to be shuttled off to a Nederlandt for life as a taxi. Yet at some, point it must have had a mid life crisis, quit its job as a taxi and gone on holiday in the US.
The VIN plate is engraved (not stamped) and lists a "Nguyen and Nguyen" as being the importers. These guys did a horrible job of federalizing the car. Maybe not horrible, but certainly not up to MB standards. Particularly the wiring. I am going to replace the dash anyways and figured it would be an excellent chance to "fix" the nightmare. Anyone have any suggestions as to best way to go about this? Take the Euro spec wiring diagram and label any new wires? Biggest complaint currently is the radio power is connected to the cig lighter. I am going to rewire the ground atleast to something closer to the chassis. Wipers dont work, as of last week (driving in rain caused a bad short) I have jumping gauges etc etc. This is going to be nasty, atleast its all analog!
