How do you remove a 210 tranny fill pipe cover?

I called Phil and he said there weren't any special tools to take it off. There is also a cover pin that comes off. Has anyone removed it before? There's a good post on changing your tranny fluid in the DIY section but it doesn't show how to remove that little cap.

It's right where the dipstick would be on a normal transmission.

You just break the seal/clip that holds it in place. Some replace it, but I've never bothered. That way I can check the fluid level every so often. The O ring inside the cap makes for a tight fit.

I'd fill it to capacity, take it to a shop and have them check it then you seal it and forget it. That is what I did at 60K

I too changed it myself and then took it to the dealer for the fancy leveling, looks like I had half a quart too much in there, go figure.

Did you first use the laser thermometer to check the temperature and then the dipstick tool to check the level?

I'm just wondering why it was off. I planned on just doing it as I described above but maybe I won't if other people had problems doing it that way.

I did not use the temperature sensor, will next time. I was using the old school method of if it holds X drain it and replace with approved quantity.

However, there was "spillage" and "guessing".

So, I would say operator error.
