83 300d turbo engine in 77 240d conversion almost done!

Can you get the wiring harness from the '83?

shadetreetech 07-06-2006 05:07 PM

I do have the 83 parts car (severe body damage) I hadent thought of swaping the whole wire harness.can that be done?

rrgrassi 07-06-2006 05:21 PM

I would not swap the entire harness, just the parts you need like the GP circuit, etc.

I am not real familiar with MB wiring, but I am familiar with GM wiring. The same model car, but with different options would use the same harness, but leave out the connections for the different options. That is how I added "factory" cruise control to an old Pontiac I had. I found the LJ model and took all the parts off, and took the wiring harness just in case.

If you have wiring schematics for both cars, you should be able to get every thing hooked up with a little modifying.

hmm I am going to look into that thanks for the input. on another note the engine starts and runs (manualy operated the relay)but the transmission dosent go into any gear?,well Im going into town with the driveline and will check back in later thanks for the help :)

im wondering if anybody knows what i should do with those two wires that are atached to that thing on the firewall that is part of the turbo system.dam i wish i knew what the heck thats called! I think there are a few people who have done this conversion right?or have had it done for them . ?.or a link about the same?

Doesn't that thing go to the "kickdown" switch under the go pedal on the 300? It definitely wouldn't be present in the 240. I'd bet it's a simple two wire and three vacuum hose swap.

Overboost.

That "thing" is the overboost sensor that shuts off the Alda if the turbo is crankin' out too much pressure. You may just need to supply switched power to it (i.e. supply juice to it when the ignition is "on", but I'm not completely sure on that front).

There was a huge post on here not too long ago - about six pages - about someone doing a turbo conversion, s/he'd be the one to ask. Or DieselGiant....

Jay.

P.S. (Being lazy) how'd you do the throttle linkage? Got any pix?

shadetreetech 07-07-2006 01:52 PM

I dont have pics but the throttle linkage conversion wasent too hard:first I chisled the upper bracket off of the firewall and fastened it to the 240 with metal screws,I then cut an oval hole down below and drilled four holes in the the area just below that for the lower section. I made a stencil for the lower holes but mostly eyeballed the job but it seems to work well .
