Changing Brakes On 300sd
I need to change my front brakes on my 85 300sd. Is it any harder than most other cars? Do you need any special tools to do the job? thanks

dave,
By changing the brakes, what do U mean? Changing the pads, changing the calipers, changing the rotors? U could also have bad brake hoses, master cylinder, brake lines or vacuum booster. So we need to know what the problem is before we can advise U. Since the usual repair is R&R the brake pads, the instructions are below: Changing the pads is easiest of any car I have seen. Just remove the wheel, remove the clips that hold the pad pins in place (some models do not have these clips), punch out the pins, pull out the pad, push the caliper piston back into the caliper, replace the pad, replace the pins, replace the wheel and U are finished. Note: do only one pad at a time so the opposite piston doesn't come out of the caliper. Check brake fluid level after finished and refill as necessary. If the rotor is worn beyond limits or the caliper pistons won't slide into the caliper, or there are any brake fluid leaks leaks there is more work required. P E H |

actually, check fluid before you start because when you push the pads in it will push fluid up into the master cyl and it could run over if it is full before you begin.
