86 300SDL Engine Won't Shut Off

I recently stored my car for several months and prior to this I added a
fuel preservative to the tank. I now must operate the emergency switch
to shut off the engine. Will this problem correct itself after the fuel
additive is out of the system or do I have a problem that requires
servicing? I have read somewhat about this problem and wonder whether I
may have a vacuum problem with the shut off valve. If so where is the
valve located and is it easy to check? Door locks operate OK. What
might be a ballmark cost for the dealer to repair?

Thanks

It's not a tough DIY and have actualy learned to sneek in and remove without taking off the intake. Before replacing - take a Mity-Vac and validate that is your problem (as opposed to a hole in a vac line).

pasch,

Why would anyone ever put fuel preseravative in Diesel Fuel? I've had fuel over 10 years old and it worked as good as new. Its not gasoline that evaporates and changes with time.

Anyway, I don't think the fuel preservative is what caused your problem. Its either a vacuum leak, bad key switch or bad shutoff diaphram.

mr. haynes, have you used the fungicide/(algaecide?) fuel additive?

P.E.Haiges 07-14-2006 08:22 PM

Mr Janko,

Please note the spelling of my name.

Yes, I used Biobor which is a fungacide not a fuel preserative as paschalleddie1 said he used. I only used Biobor in my one vehicle that had its fuel system contaminated with fungus.

I don't use any other additives unless U call used engine oil an additive.

Thank you everyone for your assistance. The problem turned out to be a
vacuum line had come off of the "shut off diaphram"? I looked around
the area where the manual emergency stop level was a saw a "clean"
brass nozzle fitting and then located an unnconnected hose and
reattached it to the fitting. Works fine now.
