1990 300D turbo with 5 cyl engine?

Hello everyone.

I wanted to ask you guys if the 1990 300D turbo was available with a 5 cyl engine?

I've been looking around for a 300D turbo, and I found one in really good shape, but is has a 5 cyl engine. I think that's odd. I thought that the 5 cyl engine was discontinued after the 603 engine was launched.

Thanks for any advice

Sure, there was a W124 5 cylinder turbo diesel sold from 1990.5 thru 1993 - - a truly great Benz diesel, IMO.

They are badged "2.5 Turbo" on the deck lid.

You can even occasionally stumble upon a grey market 124 with an OM601 four cylinder diesel.

The OM602 (fiver) is an excellent engine.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll take a drive around with it, to see how it feels. I really like this car, quite a beauty.

I know the five cylinder engine is great. I already own a 1982 300D and its great how everything works on this old benz.

The five cylinder OM602 that you are considering is very different from the five cylinder OM617 that you currently have. About the only common thing is the fact that they both have five cylinders.........everything else is different.

can the head and intake be swapped between the two engines? I always wanted the strength of the 5cyl. 3.0l with the power and efficiency of the opposing intake and exhaust 2.5l.
