Transmission fluid that should be red on the 2 small bottom connectors. The oil cooler is actually attached to the side of the radiator and has large hose connections. That oil will be black.

The oil cooler is bolted to the radiator and has two very large (25mm) nuts that hold the oil lines to the cooler. These nuts are usually very difficult to remove without damage. It's normally preferable to unbolt the oil cooler from the radiator.

The radiator itself has two small connections at the very bottom for the transmission fluid. The fluid is a dull red color.........not black.
I must have undone the oil cooler, because I remember having to use a 25MM wrench. They came off VERY easily, must have been off before. The oil that was in them was Black. In fact, I have to finish cleaning it out of my driveway.

How do I replace it? What precautions should I take i.e: should I not run the a/c?

Yep, that's the oil cooler.

You probably lost about 1 pint of oil or so of engine oil.

Just check the dipstick and add a bit of oil if the oil is at the low mark or below. No need to add any oil if the oil is anywhere between the two marks. No other precautions........it's got nothing to do with the a/c.

You'll need to do this check after it's been driven and the cooler circuit fills with oil........otherwise, you won't see any drop on the dipstick.

Also, check the transmission fluid (oil hot.......engine running). You probably lost some red transmission fluid when you had the radiator removed.

When the pump seal goes, the pump will leak quite a bit of coolant via the weep hole on the underside of the pump. The coolant will appear beneath the vehicle, just behind the radiator.

But, check to be sure you don't have a lower hose leaking..............

Changing the pump is not difficult, but, you will struggle with the four mounting screws for the fan unless you make a box wrench with a ground off tip to fit the screw heads. An open end wrench can sometimes be used, but, it's a crapshoot........sometimes you round the fasteners.
Where is the lower hose? Is there one on the under belly of the car? I replaced the two on top. There appears to be a leak somwhere below my water pump. With that being said, is there another hose that could be leaking? The car is at the shop right now..not a MB Idep but a client of mine that has a good mechanic..

Please let me know ASAP so I can call him.

thanks!

The lower radiator hose carries coolant from the bottom of the radiator up to the thermostat housing. It's 1.75" across. He won't miss it.

Another possibility of a leak is the very short hose below the thermostat housing. It's about 1.5" long and allows the coolant to return to the water pump. This hose is difficult to see and impossible to replace without removing the thermostat housing. You might mention this hose to him.

He does. He used it and found that the hoses were leaking (they weren't until he pressure tested)..but at that time he didn't think the water pump was leaking..but the way it sits it is difficult to tell. Plus, since the pressure test the other outlet, wherever that may be, is leaking faster.
