How do you check chain stretch on a 2.5?

I just picked up a 92 300D 2.5 with 244k the chain was done around 150K I believe but there seems to be some clatter or noise at startup that quickly goes away and smoothes out. I cant seem to find any guides or DIY tutorials on checking the degree of chain stretch anyone have a link to something?
