Just bought 8 quarts at the local O'Reilly's. I think it was $6.49/quart. I have gotten to the point of not looking at the price of oil and gas recently. Must be in denial.

That's the price for 5 quart jugs, he's talking about the price for 1 quart.

I need to look around today and see if I can find some, I need to change my oil before I go out of town.

That's what I've been using while waiting for the M1 to come back. I'm just not sure how "full synthetic" it really is. It's probably good enough for now.

Rotella 5w40 "synthetic" is what I've been using for about 2,000 miles so far. It's not *full* synthetic but mostly synthetic. I used to use Delvac 1300, and I don't see much difference from it with Rotella as far as engine noise and soot are concerned. The car didn't smoke with Delvac, and it doesn't smoke with Rotella. The only real reason I switched is because I don't want to change oil every 3,000 come winter time... Hopefully 5,000 would be fine on Rotella. I haven't seen Mobil1 SUV and Truck locally...

I've been using Rotella synthetic too, from using Mobil Delvac 1, and I notice less leakage. My car uses oil while it's parked, and I haven't added any since the change around 2 months ago. I think it's good oil, and will go back to Mobil 1 for the extended oil drain interval, but Rotella is a good 2nd choice and works beautifully in a pinch.

The Shell Rotella "Syn" is a Group III base stock, which is basically hydrocracked dino oil - not a real synthetic. Mobil-1 (and Amsoil, and Redline) use real Group IV/V synthetic base stocks.

"In a pinch", use Mobil-1 15W-50 oil, which is still commonly available almost everywhere (except Wal-Mart). I still have not seen the new 5W-40 TDT oil on the shelves near me. I'll have to revert to Delvac-1 if I can't find the TDT. I had used the Shell for a little while but I was not impressed... oil consumption increased noticeably past 3-4kmi on my OM617.

Rotella T and leaks

All,

I was doing a search on the small oil leak I have at my IP and I found a couple of posts where people were stating Rotella T is known for increased leaks. I think I am going to switch back to Mobile1. Has anyone seen the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 on the shelves at Walmart yet? I wanna change the oil this weekend.

I spoke too soon on the Rotella. I think it may have caused the oil guage to leak??? Or maybe it was just time for it to leak. This car is playing games with my mind, perhaps the additive package doesn't contain the seal-sweller that M1 does. Oh well, needed an oil change, had to use something.

I personally use rotella and I like it. In fact, I have 500 mi left before my 4000 mi oil change. At 3k, Blackstone said that my TBN's were out of this world and that soot levles were "slightly" hi. They said try 4k and that they figure Rotella Synthetic is good for at least 5k.

I'm currently using Rotella "Synthetic" for 5K while I wait for Mobil 1 to come back. I'm sure 5K is OK with any diesel rated synthetic, but I still prefer Mobil 1.

I have seen a few quarts of 5-40 SUV at Walmart and at Pepboys. Never enough to be worth buying. Gonna keep and eye out though. New Walmart by me has lousy selection of oil anymore. Have to drive a ways to another one to get oil. While back they had the big jugs at a good price. I filled the cart.
