sticking accelerator pedal help
Hey Guys,
I have an annoying problem with a stuck accelerator pedal on my 83 300D. Often, my pedal will stay a little depressed after completely lifting my foot of the pedal. So, when I lift off the accelerator pedal to brake, I can feel the car still being accelerated. I then have to stick my foot under the accelerator pedal to lift it up. I have found that the linkage on the valve cover is what is hanging up. The little white plastic roller seems to be binding and not allowing everything to move back. Has anyone else had this problem? It is a common problem? Can I buy the bushings or the entire linkage? Any suggestions? Thanks, rene |

No one has had this problem?

I had this problem when I bought mine. I lubed averything up, and it would return most of the way by itself. A $2 throttle return spring from Autozone fixed this problem.

Take it all apart, clean and lube all the ball joints using ATF and see how it does then.

I agree with Jim....just lube all the ball connectors and roller and inspect the cable sheath for any breaks or kinks..... drizzle some WD40 or light oil down the cable end into the sheath.
Have I had a problem like this..ya on everything from the garden tractor to 84 & 87 MB, DS21 Pallas Citroen, Porsches, Maserati BiTurbo....it does not matter....when the cable wears out and freys or the linkage or cable is not lubricated periodically it will stick sooner or later. Just try lubricating it. If it works for a short time and the problem returns then its time to replace parts. |
