Battery for an 85 300d
I need a battery, I know that I need a "group 49" and the manual says it should have 740CCA. A nice 850CCA from Interstate is $150.00 (Canadian). I can get a "group 41" from Costco for $52. It looks to be about the same size, terminals are on the right sides and it has the recessed terminals. Problem is, it only has 650CCA. Do I use the costco battery or fork out 3 times the price for a couple of hundred more CCA?
I live outside of Toronto, Canada. Peter |

I have a 850 CCA group 49 for about $80US. I would not go less than 750CCA, especially in cold weather.

If you ever get over to Buffalo, Autozone has inexpensive batteries...Group 49-850 CCA-$60.

"You get what you pay for". I am sure you have heard that a million times. I have worked on cars a long time and I feel that the INTERSTATE is one of the best wet cell batteries. They easily last five plus years. Shop around and you might find one cheaper than $150.00.

Something you should look at - some of the Sears have them, but not all. the "R" is important as it has the reverse posts. It fits my 84 300SD - nopt sure about your model. Check out the specs on it though - it's a beast!

The warranty on the Duralast at Autozone is 84 months. The battery typically goes the distance. The price is about $70. You'll pay close to double for the Interstate.............think it will last 168 months?? |

I've had my Die Hard battery on the sedan for 2 years now. Not a single problem. The Autolite one installed on the wagon when we got it died on us, forcing us to get a new battery and also have MB RA jump the car. Got a new Die Hard and it's all OK now.
I heard the MB batteries cost more or less the same, and are just as good. $130 for the Die Hard. The Autozone batteries are Duralast brands, not the Autolite found in Kragen stores.

The AutoZoo one seems to be the best deal in terms of cost/warranty.

Mistel,
The Duralast battery from AutoZone is made by Johnson Controlls, known for making long lasting batteries. And the price of about $5 + tax can't beat. All U need for warranty service is your phone number. What ever U do, don't get an Excide battery. I had 3 and all 3 never lasted more than 3 years. They are sold under various names. I have 3 Duralast batteries in service with no problems. They are starting to get a little old but still start my cars easily. I wouldn't buy any other brand. I don't know of U have AutoZone stores in Canada, but if U don't, slip over the border into the USA. Almost any size town has an AZ store. The revenuers will never notice a new battery in your car. I as a Canadian do not appreciate the much higher costs here. The batteries for example come in under the no tariff free auto trade agreement I believe. They are about twice the american price or more. Plus the 14 percent sales tax in most provinces. The autozone battery in general has the best reputation by far when price/quality is concerned. Might even be generally the best even when excluding price. A lot of forum members seem to favour it as well.
