Seems like a good combo so far. I'll post back after I have driven it a bit more.
In the video as I am slowing down and idling next to the yellow Ford Focus you can hear a slow (2x a second or so) metallic sound. Any ideas as to what could be causing it? |
Speaking of k26s...
Watching this thread with interest as I'm considering building a 240D 3.0T myself. But I was wondering:
What car is the K26 you mention taken from? I thought all the 617s had Garretts with integral wastegates- as opposed to the good old K26 with completely divorced wastegate I'm used to from 10 yrs of messing with Audi 5000 Quattros. Is there a K26 with attached WG, or what? |

The metallic rattle sounds like diesel (injector) nailing. |

Does one turbo have an advantage over the other? |

The T3 has better top end, but spools slightly slower and has a minor surge when the accelerator is quickly released after a hard run. Example from my 300TD: LINK |

One more thing...
I am going to be driving this beast on a 350 mile trip home tomorrow. Any suggestions on what I should double check before the trip? Thanks. |

"Any suggestions on what I should double check before the trip?" Spare fuel filters. If the car has been sitting for over a hear, there is likely sludge/crud settled on the bottom of the tank that will break loose whenever it feels like it. It happened to me. I know my car had been sitting for over 4 years and sure enough the filters were plugged before the end of the week. |
my om617 sounds nothing like that, it sounds different than the rest, could it be because its an 85?
|
Well it made the trip with no problems. I got 22 mpg at 70-75 mph. The power it has now is great! I can easily accelerate up hills and pass in 4th gear. :D The brake pad light started flickering so I guess it's time for new pads.
I also got pulled over for drunk driving...blew an impressive 0.0 I wasn't even weaving. |
