Talking Poor man's headlight upgrade....

I bought some of the Pilot 6054 Reflectors that will allow me to use standard H4 bulbs in my Sealed-Beam reflector carriers in my 126.

The look really cool and I love the light pattern. Very close to the E-pal headlights I hear talked about.

I bought the pair of reflectors and a three pack of Xenon Super Blue 60/55 watt (off road only.. ya right! )bulbs. Total with shipping was just under $70.

Not bad.

Wow, those look cool, I am going to consider lights like that when mine burn out.

However, the "Sylvania Halogen XtraVision" series of sealed beam lamps are also quite excellent, very white light and good visibility, plus they're only like $14-15 My dad's '83 has them and it has better lighting than mine. Just waiting till mine burn out......

Sorry, somewhat of a typo on my part.

I meant to say E-code, as in the Bosch Autopal E-code light conversions......

I got these from JCWhitney. Just look for the Pilot 6054 Conversions. I chose to forgo the ones that had colored trim rings in them...........

As for the lights, I used the Xenon Blue bulbs..... $17.95 for three of em...

would you mind taking a couple of pictures of what these look like at night when turned on?

That would be really great.

No big deal if you dont want to.

Thanks

The Super Blue Offroad look a little high wattage for your system. Better order some light plugs from Phil to keep on hand

No, I have the 60/55 watt units, thought about 100/90, or even 130/90, but didn't want to have to mod the wiring........

Sure, I'll take some night pics as soon as I get the car out of the barn. I'm doing body and interior work right now on it (both front fenders off and complete interiror out! )

i have the super blue "off road" lights, they are 55w and i love the blue light output. I hate the legal ones my friend has, they dont look blue enough. And since they are legal the tint i really light so the output looks just the same as a standard halogen.

Here's what I did with the wagon:

Cheap lights

I got these "Matrix" lights from a local Jap store, SuperAutoBacs in CA. The boxes are marked "Matrix" but the lenses are marked DENJI on the bottom and I got each for $9.99. Here's a comparison between them with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs on the wagon, and Bosch E-Code lamps with Hella bulbs.

Both are standard wattage, 60/55.
Both are installed on stock wiring harnesses (no relays).
Both are H4 bulbs.

Bosch E-Code + Hella bulbs on the left. DENJI E-Code type + Silverstars on the right:

Bosch E-Code + Hella bulbs

DENJI E-Code type + Silverstar bulbs

Personal experience tells me the Bosch ones have more foreground illumination, but the Denji lenses have slightly less. Still, for $10 a lens, I think it's a bargain.

Hey Matt,

What kind of foglights are those in the pictures of your 300SD? They look nice and was thinking about finding some to put in my 1984 300SD.

Thanks for any leads,

Gilbert
