OM606 NA catalytic converter replacement

Hey guys, any ideas on some aftermarket cats for the NA engine - The OEM is like $600. I can find better things to use $600 for. The NA has 2 separate downpipes that lead into the cat and on the other end they both combine into a single unit. I was thinking maybe 2 small high flow cats and then a y-pipe on the back end to connect to the rest of the exhaust.

Anyone know of any muffler shops in Columbia, SC that you would trust?

Why are you going to replace it? Does the state you live in test for emissions from diesels?

If it's clogged, I would just remove it and unclog it by turning it into a hollow resonator.

Another thing you may want to consider if you are going towards the emissions route is that I'm fairly certain that cats made for gassers and those made for diesels are different in construction...the gasser might soot up unacceptably.

The sulfur in diesel fuel, even ULSD, will foul a g@sser designed cat and plug it up.

I'd pull it off and give it a rod treatment. Like deltajetfixer said, make it a hollow resonator.

As far as emissions they don't test here in SC. The cat on there now is slowly rotting and may need replacement soon. I guess installing 2 stainless steel resonators and then a y-pipe would do the trick? I just don't want it to be louder. I like the way it is now and I know that a freer eshaust on my NA probably won't do much performance wise. Am I wrong?

Just replace the cat with some straight pipe. They are pointless, spend the $600 on something worth while.
