I could maybe see paying 10k for something like an '85 300D that was fully restored, but a '76 240??? That is so SLOW.....

If it was so carefully stored, why did it need a new interior? Was Mercedes using M-BTex in 1976? One would think that the interior would hold up rather well if the car really was inside most of the past 30 years.

The appraisal does sound high. My 1985 300D Turbo (CA smog version) just appraised at $9000. It is in good-to-excellent original condition -- well cared for by a succession of owners (who drove it regularly) amd cleaned up (but not "restored") by me.

Interesting that the only bidder so far has zero feedback and absolutely no history with eBay. Do we have anyone at Kodak U who could go check this car out for us?

Why would one just spend $9K on an exquisite example of
a car?
Doesn't make sense to me.

I saw that auction - the high bidder has zero feedback. He can ask for the $10k, but I don't think he'll get it.

Why would he spend $9000 on a 30 year old car, just to turn around and sell it for only $1000 more than what he put into it.

Did you look at the interior? While I question why a car with 22k on it needs a new interior (maybe too hot where it was stored?), it certainly looks new in the pictures.

However, the distinct lack of engine compartment shots makes me suspicious.

I bet some rodents made their home in the interior of that beast. That thing is going to need more than just new brakes, it's going to need new seals everywhere, and probally more, not worth the money. I've talked to a few too many people who have had bad luck with cars with low miles that just sat around unused for several years

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That includes me

It's a good car car, great paint (mabey even origional), new interior/tires/brakes...

Flawless, but no engine shots...

yes, in 76 they used MB tex

Armorall and sunshine kill them... but if it had rich previous owners, they might have only really needed new seat springs, and a good cleaning. Who knows?

I'd put it on a lift, and check it over real good before dropping more then 6k on it...

But DAMN that interior's nice

OMG!!! Someone notify the MB classic museum in Stuttgart right away!!

They will need this right away for their collection.

(They offered $30,000 GBP for the British "Cherished" number plate MB 1 but the owner turned it down)

That is *exactly* the car I am trolling for. But not an unused garage queen that is going to need all the dry, brittle, under-used squishy parts replaced before it's road-worthy...and certainly not for $10k (reserve not met, BTW).

It's no speed demon, but how can you put a price on class?

I too wonder why there aren't any engine photos and no shots of the jack points or the frame on a lift. That will make my "early production" 74' at least $5000.

I bet they appraised the car at $22k in using year 2018 dollars.
