Noise, Smoke, and power loss.

A while back, I noticed that my engine was making a steady "chk" sound that increased in frequency as the RPM's increased. I figured I had a junky injector, so I ran 2 cans of DP. It didn't seem to help much. There seemed to be a loss in power too, 16-18 second 0-60. A month later, I ran 2 more cans of DP, and still, no results. I just kept driving it and I figured that it was 1 or 2 nailing injectors (even though the sound is more of a chk than a nail) and that I would eventually get around to actually diagnosing it. Today, I drove it for the first time in a week (I was out of town) and I noticed that the sound had intensified. A lot. The engine sounded terrible! It wasn't running rough, or even on the verge of stalling. It just sounded...ill. Also, I noticed that when I gave it the first good kick to the throttle, it let out a HUGE black cloud. however, it didn't seem to let out anymore after that.

I'm worried that I might be doing damage to the car by driving it. The noise is clearly coming from the engine block, and if I touch the injector lines, they all seem to give a little feedback, some more than others (this might be normal, I wouldn't know). I'm also hoping that it is not my IP, seeing as I run wvo. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Are you running on 100 per cent wvo? Is it heated? How much filtering? Are you diluting? Carboned up injectors and is very suspicious, not to mention the condition of the prechambers.

Well, I have a two tank system, so yes, it is 100% wvo when it's not diesel. I filter it really fine, and for dewatering, I hold a 55 gal drum at 100-120 degrees for 2-3 days. Now, as far as heat goes, I've been trying to correct my low heat issue, and in the meantime, I have just been carelessly driving it. Well, I guess not carelessly, but I should figure out the heat thing before I continue to drive it. My average temperatures run at about 140. I'm in the process of putting ogether a glowplug heater. hopefully that will bring my temps up. I suspect my injectors may be gunked. In the case that my injectors have received punishment from the wvo, will I have to buy new ones/rebuilt ones or can I just clean them out manually?

If this has occurred recently, you probably will be fortunate and only need to clean the injectors. Like you stated, it might be a good idea to not run on wvo until you have sorted out your heat problems.

It's much easier to "correct" the situation while it's still new.
