Salvage Yards in Pacific NW

Can anybody recommend a good one? I am having a hack of a time finding a engine for my 240D. I would like to drop a 617 Turbo in it, but may settle for a replacement 616. So far the few yards I have found that have engines want $1000 or more for runners. I could buy a whole car for that. Thanks for the help. –Bryan

Pa has a few of them.
Don't know how close any of these
would be.

There is a pretty good one here in Boise. Barger Mattson. They have always had a few 123's when I have called or visited. I don't know what they would charge for an engine.

I also has a little luck in the Eugene, OR area when I was there finding 123's in the junkyards.

Also there is apparently a 240 for sale near a friends house. I have no idea what condition is it in though.

Nothing in the NW that I am aware of that is on the scale mentioned above. I have had luck at:
* Benz Friends - Seattle
* Aurora Auto Wrecking - Seattle
* Mercedes Source - Bellingham
* Mercedes Garage - Bellevue

Drive down to Sacramento and get a 617 turbo for $600. I'm sure gas would be less then $400

"Benz Friendz" close to Boeing Field in Seattle is the best yard I know. Talk to Roger 206 762 7576. Also you might check with Abb at 206 293 2127, cant remember the name of his place, something like "MBMW", hes not cheap but might be helpful. There is also "Aurora Auto Wreckers", talk to Mark, 800 426 6464.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to get on the horn with some of these places.

I gave them all a try and this is what I found:

Ace German Parts: $1500 CDN
Aurora Auto: $1000, compression 300-380 psi, 170K miles
I left a message with Benz friends, but they have not got back to me yet.

I have a few months to look before I am going to attempt the swap, hopefully I can find a good deal in that time. I am going to be in southern CA for a week, maybe I’ll hunt around a bit down there. Thanks for the help. –Bryan

Before you make a buy, I would do everything possible to check the used engines out.
I went to Aurora Auto Wrecking after they quoted me something on a "near perfect" 617 with 120k miles. This was a few years back.
Went to the yard and found the car is came out of. Located the dash, it read 289k miles. The engine was out, it looked to me like a 289k problem.
Don't believe everything you are quoted on the phone.
Abe at MBMW has some good stuff, but he is not a wrecker. Call him anyway. He gets some stuff in there from time to time. His shop is a few blocks away from Aurora AR.

I plan on seeing it run or running a compression test on it before I plunk down that much dough.
