How-to Belt Molding?
Folks:
Searched the entire forum for a How-to on replacing the "belt molding" or "sealing rail" depending on who is calling it. This is the rubber squeegie type weatherstrip that presses on the outside of the window about waist high and is part of the metal trim strip. One post said to tap under the trim strip carefully with a wooden block to remove it, but another said the inside door panel must be removed. Has anyone had any recent experience removing these?

These strips can be removed without removing the interior panel. Using a block of wood is definitely one way to do it. If you can get a wedge shaped piece of wood/plastic it will be even easier. Just start at one end of the molding, and slowly drive it upwards as you move to the other end of the strip. Easy cheesy. Putting it back on is the proverbial reversal of disassembly.
Good luck, Tom

Go to your local hardware store and get a 'Wunderbar' pry bar. They are very handy when it comes to removing door panels, etc. I just replace the wipers on my 115. Slide the long curved end of the bar between the door and the underside of the wiper. Tap up on the bar and slided it down the length of the wiper and keep tapping it up. The wiper is held on by 5 clips that slide over the edge of the inner and outter door panels.
When you go back in with the wiper be careful that you get notches on either end in the right position. Otherwise you can bend the wiper. Thought! If your wipers are bad enough to need replacing your window guide rails are probably bad too. I didn't repalce the rails in my 115 and now they are causing trouble on the passenger's side. The warn rail lets the bottom of the window come out of the track and therefore it won't close all the way. The old guide rails seem to swell shut and bind up the window. This also causes many blown fuses |

Getting clearer
It's getting clearer now. It's just that I have a hard time with my 5 thumbs on each hand. I just don't want to pay probably $100 to have a $25 part put on. So one final question if you don't mind. So does the new belt molding come with the "chrome" trim strip attached? Also, does the 5 clips just grab the door skin or is there some sort of a "female" clip on the inside of the door that they have to be mated with.? Thanks for all the help.

You will buy the rubber strip seperate from the chrome trim. There are about 5 clips on the chrome that will grab the rubber as you put the new rubber onto the chrome strip. Those same clips will slip over the top lip of the door. Use that same piece of wood used in removal to gently hammer the chrome strip back into place. Trust me, you can do it. It will all fall into place after you remove the chrome.
Good luck, Tom
