I am looking at replacing my 1987 300 D with a 1996 E 300. I've located a replacement and want to buy it. But I need to sell the 87. I'm thinking $1900.... it has 266K, 14 head was off a year ago, inspected, and new head gasket.

Yesterday the AC quit, I suspect the compressor as it now screeches for the few seconds it will remain on before sensed and shut off, the rest of the ac system is good, had r-12.....The transmission slips slightly into third, but has been doing this for over a year unchanged...the rest of the car is in pretty good shape with many many new parts and lots of money spent. The interior is near mint and the body is dent free and with only minor surface rust just beginning to appear in three locations...minor....it has 100k tires new 20k ago and passes inspection easily...cruise doesnt work, neither the roof but can be moved open manually...... Also, it has depot euro head lamps and a recent Harmon/Kardon Traffic Pro CD/GPS system and expensive Infinity speaker system w/bass speaker and amp in trunk.

Is this car in the ball park...$1900....or should I consider higher or lower.......?

Where in the country are you at ? someone here might be interested.

$1900 isnt far off if everything is good but no A/C - it is summertime right now.

If it were me, I'd take a bunch of pictures and post it on ebay. I've seen 87 300D's with more miles go for double what you're asking. You could definitely boost the value by fixing the AC. I know down here in NC, if you had that car with working AC, you could easily get $4,500 for it, and maybe more.
