Has anyone had any experience trying to boost the HP on their 240Ds?
I've been told that changing the fan to a 300D fan clutch helps a little...not sure how much. The second way I've heard was something to do with the cam, like maybe swapping my 1980 cam and towers to an 81 or 82 cam and towers. Does this make any sense. Has anyone heard of any other means? thanks Joe |

These questions always give me a good laugh Simply put: Want more power? Sell the 240Dog and get a 300. OR: swap some honkin' V8 into the chassis, say an engine from a Euro 500 or a 560. That would be a cool sleeper!

Swapping cams/cam towers wouldn't do anything as far as power increase on a 240d. I've read a post on another bbs of an owner adding a turbo to a 240d. As Aaron said, it's not worth the trouble. If your unhappy/uncomfortable with the 240d (I love my 67hp mule), you'll be better off buying a 300dt.
But, I have to strongly disagree with Aaron in one respect. IT IS POSSIBLE TO DRASTICALLY INCREASE THE TAKE-OFF POWER IN A 240D .... I'VE SEEN SOMEONE WHO HAS PROVEN THIS. Although I would not personally do this: What this person did was to cut the driver & passenger side floor boards out from the edge of the front seats to just under the accelerator & brake pedals. This allows your (and your passenger's) feet to touch the ground to give you the "running" start that 240d owners dream off. PEDAL POWER IS AWESOME. On one of the newsgroups someone once said that the 240D is basically a farm tractor with a car body. They are one of those cars that can be driven flat-out more than most cars, without getting in trouble. A 300D or 300Dt is much quicker.

Air Filter
I have NOT done this myself, but their is an air filter sold by ************************ that allows more air to get into the engine and thus increase performance.
I am thinking about driving my 240D from CA to NY... does anyone think I will have any problems, especially with hills? It would be more economical for me to do this than to try to buy a car while I am out there. -SB PS: I loved the tractor analogy. What about "takes a lickin' but keeps on tickin'" (very loud tick by the way) |
